Celebrate Stonerose at the Burke: Funding Fabulous Fossils!
Funding Fabulous Fossils!
The food was tasty, the wine and beer excellent, and the atmosphere was festive as Stonerose held their first fundraiser in Seattle at the Burke Museum. Generous members, merchants and friends donated wonderful items for the auction to help Stonerose recover from two slow seasons, due to wildfire danger and conditions.
With a smaller than anticipated attendance, we are so grateful to have still netted $25,000. Just think if we had ALL of our fantastic members and friends attend! Discussion by the board and staff about holding this event annually has begun, with an eye to an Autumn event instead of Spring, when so many folks are busy with graduations and school centric events. And wouldn’t it be fun to do your holiday shopping for such unique treasures while supporting Stonerose?
The funds raised will go a long way towards our Outreach Educational Programs. Stonerose staff can travel to outlying regions (especially to places more than 5 hours away) to give students the opportunity of a lifetime…a hands on shale splitting experience!
Thank you AT&T, Verizon, Kinross Gold for generous sponsorships. Thank you to Rockwall Cellars for the in-kind donation of wine, and to Republic Brewing Company for the beer! Washington Federal Bank (Republic Branch) helped out by providing “shopping” bags and pens for placing those all important bids. And last, but not least, we are grateful to The Burke for providing the venue.
Contact us if you have comments, suggestions or want to help us fundraise, so Stonerose can keep school kids excited about science!
