Fossil Hunt at our Eocene Fossil Site

The public is welcome to visit Stonerose and search for their own fossils in our Eocene fossil beds. At the time of your visit, the Stonerose staff will explain our rules for digging and how to find fossils. After showing all your finds to the staff for identification, you may keep three fossils per day.

Executive Director Opening

The Friends of Stonerose Fossils are seeking an Executive Director for a small, but important scientific, educational non-profit located in beautiful Republic, Washington. The director works under the direction of a 5-7 member Board and will be responsible for managing the overall operations of the Interpretive Center and Fossil Site which includes: providing a scientific, fun environment for both visitors and team members; establishing and maintaining community relations; meeting financial expectations; adhering to policy and procedures; and upholding our mission, philosophy and values. This is an exciting opportunity for a leader to take the helm, which is available due to a retirement, and start fresh, midway through a new capital campaign!

Stonerose has been in operation for 32 years and is a driving economic force for our County, hosting over 6,000 visitors every summer to our small, but vibrant community. We are in the first phase of a major capital campaign. The goal of the campaign is a permanent move to a much larger building in a more visible location, in order to build a world-class museum and environmental education center.

The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications/experience:
A degree in Business or Education or similar, or a comparable combination of education and experience as an Administrator and previous supervision experience,

Marketing, Fundraising, and work with non-profit organizations preferred. Interest in Science and Education is a plus.

A strong desire to make a difference in the community and a commitment to understand the needs of our residents

Ability to partner with all a variety of government, scientific, and tourism entities.

Excellent customer service skills

Ability to work independently with self-discipline and self-motivation

Travel and work schedule flexibility: This position requires up to 25% regional travel to marketing events and/or outreach events, which include overnight stays. Must be able and willing to have a flexible schedule that may include nights and weekends to attend functions/events, as required.
